Papillon Restaurant
Henri Charrière, one of the world's most famous prisoners, would surely have had the time of his life at Papillon Restaurant in The Village, across from the Radisson Resort. Nicknamed Papillon because of the butterfly tattoo on his chest, the Frenchman was the first convict to escape from Devil's Island, something that nobody had ever done before. Charrière's thrilling, gripping autobiography has been the concept behind Papillon Restaurant.
Papillon Restaurant's menu reflects the Frenchman's arduous journey to freedom: classic French dishes have been dusted with daring Caribbean flair and are a culinary journey for your taste buds. Papillon is open daily for dinner.

The evening we happened upon Papillon was a very good one. We had been active all day with snorkling and swimming, and were actually very tired when looking for a place to dine. The Papillon hostess seated us immediatly, was very friendly and helpful, and the wait staff was very efficient and attentive. Both of our entrees, which were traditional French cuisine were outstanding. The desert was outstanding also, and the price was very affordable. We found it so enjoyable, that we dined there again before leaving Aruba.

We enjoyed a particularly pleasant night at Papillon. The ceviche al Habana appetizer was extraordinary as were the triple tail safranaise and grouper Papillon entres. The service great and servers were attentive. The nice wine list should be more than adequate for most diners. During our 8 day stay we ate dinner at some very nice restaurants (including half of this site's top ten) and this was my wife's favorite.

Papillon is a French/Caribbean restaurant in courtyard behind Senor Frog’s opposite high rise hotel district. Definitely get a reservation, even if you go early. We barely got in, but very much enjoyed the early bird special, ($29.99 per person from 5-7pm), which included a delicious soup or quiche, grouper or filet mignon, and cake w/coffee or ice cream with mixed fruit for dessert. It also included a glass of house wine. We had the grouper, which was fresh and well prepared. The atmosphere, service and food were excellent for the price. The regular menu was of course more expensive, but I’d go back in a heartbeat.

Papillon is a truly unique restaurant in Aruba, where you mostly find food that may be good, but unimaginative or stuck in another era. It was refreshing to come here and find a menu offering more updated choices.

I had the Tuna Trio (finally some raw fish that was not ceviche!), Triple Tail in saffron buerre blanc (just-right portion - no leftovers) and the pineapple tatin is smart and delicious.

The service, both at the tables and behind the bar, is so warm and friendly that the two others I was traveling with actually came here three times in 2 weeks! I really can't say enough good things about the staff.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful 28th anniversary at Papillon. The service by Andrus and staff were excellent.Food was delightfully light with excellent french flavors. We shared our bisque along with two appetizers of escargot and cold fresh fish plate in a light lime sauce. Our shared entree was fresh baked sea bass, cooked in puff pastry and sea salt.Excellent moisture and flavor.More than enough food.We were pleasantly surprised with champagne and a sparkling dessert for our anniversar, along with an anniversary picture that was emailed to us. Wonderful memorable experience.

So glad to be back on the island and enjoy the fabulous restaurants...one of my first nights, we went back to Papillon...and as our previous experience had been, great! We decided to share the appetizer special that evening, and they brought it out already split to share...the service is always top notch, friendly and welcoming... Highly recommend this restaurant!

I came to Pappilon with my husband and two friends. My girlfriend and I enjoyed our meal but the men weren't as complimentary. The service was not great on the night we were there and a mistake was made on an order. In comparing the restaurant with others we visited, it did not fare as well. I don't think my husband will return next year.

Not good. Very smal portions and not many choices. My wife ordered the lamb chops and it came with BBQ sauce. We asked for outside and were seated in the bar at a four top table with five people. The service was ok but not outstanding by any means. I don't understand all the glowing reviews. We won't be back. So many great restaurants in Aruba, this was a waste of time and money. Stay away!

We saved Papillon for our last night in Aruba, it was certainly worth it. Wanted to go last year just couldn't get a reservation so made one way in advance this year... The restaurant is delightful we ate out on the patio. My husband had the onion soup and a special for the night that was pasta with scallops I had the escargot for appetizer and the grouper papillon it was all soooo delicious. The fried ice cream for dessert was also great... I would definately make this a yearly stop....don't miss it..
