Papillon Restaurant
Henri Charrière, one of the world's most famous prisoners, would surely have had the time of his life at Papillon Restaurant in The Village, across from the Radisson Resort. Nicknamed Papillon because of the butterfly tattoo on his chest, the Frenchman was the first convict to escape from Devil's Island, something that nobody had ever done before. Charrière's thrilling, gripping autobiography has been the concept behind Papillon Restaurant.
Papillon Restaurant's menu reflects the Frenchman's arduous journey to freedom: classic French dishes have been dusted with daring Caribbean flair and are a culinary journey for your taste buds. Papillon is open daily for dinner.

The last time I ate here was the first day they opened. I mentally gave it ratings of 10 then, and they have even improved!! The food was exceptional! I had the most delicious fresh fish and ceviche, and a divine beef carpaccio. Our knowledgeable server, Tina, paired wines with each course perfectly. She really knows her grapes! I met the whole crew while dining that night, as we were there until closing time. Felix, the new guy with gorgeous red hair, Leo (or Leon? I can't remember his name) was another server extraordinaire, Bus - the tall, dark and handsome talented chef, and the aforementioned manager, Tina.
You will be very well taken care of at this restaurant. I sincerely would call this the best restaurant on the island-and I consider myself to be extremely picky. Enjoy!

The menu selection at Papillon was overwhelming. We had great difficulty deciding on only a few dishes for ourselves. Our friendly server offered us a customized 7-course meal. She surprised us appetizers: beef tartare, a tuna trio, lobster bisque and foie gras. Then, came petite versions of our entree choices: triple tail on saffron angel hair pasta and deer with a shiitake mushroom sauce. As the dinner went on, each dish was increasingly more interesting and impressive. Two wines and one cocktail were recommended to accompany the meal. We finished with lime cheesecake and a frozen espresso. As you can tell by the extensive list above, much thought and time went into selecting and preparing the well structured and quality food. Personal touches were evident and much appreciated by this honeymooning couple. The only unfortunate circumstance is that senior frog is so close and loud. Still, the atmosphere the Papillon created for us was quite enjoyable. Its small size inspires an exclusive and intimate feel, while it's street-level open-air dining room is welcoming and accessible.

Everytime we visited this nice establishment we had an enjoyable dinner experience. Excellent food, great service and a nice athmosphere. We were very satisfied with everything we tried; ceviche, crab cakes, tomato curry soup w/shrimp, sea bass, duck breast. For desert, we strongly recommend pineapple tarte tatin and brownie; they were both exceptional. Whenever we are in Aruba for a week, we make sure to have dinner here twice. We have recommended Papillon to our friends and they all had a great experience as well. We look forward to coming back and having dinner at this great restaurant.

The restaurant was an unexpected gem. The food, presentation and service were outstanding. The moment we walked in the front door we received a very pleasant professional greeting. That set the tone. The server's recommendations were on the mark. If you are in Aruba and appreciate fine dining, this is a must go to restaurant.

My husband and I were in Aruba a week ago along with our friends. We kept looking for a very good restaurant and we tried quite a few until we discovered Papillon restaurant. It has the absolutly the best food on the island. Our friends are very picky, but we all liked the food so much that we kept going back. First we tried fish, than pasta, than veal, etc. No matter what we ate was outstanding. The food wasn't just good, it was excellent. The service was very good. We highly recommend Papillon and can't wait until we go back.

This was the first place we dined when we arrived in Aruba 08/02/2010. We ordered two apps. Lobster bisque and beef carpaccio. The soup was just ok and the carpaccio was pretty good. We both ordered the sea bass. I believe the dish was cooked French style. As it turns out the fish is actually baked in a pie like filling that the waitress actually cuts out and servers to you. The fish was moist but the flavoring just didn’t cut it for us!!!!! I will never ever order backed fish again! To top it all off the sea bass was very fishy. I do not recommend at all. First night on the island so we didn’t want to complain. Shame on us for not speaking up! Our fault for not reading closer to see that the fish was baked (lighting is very dim in the first place outside) but to have the fish be fishy tasting is not acceptable. I’m sure they would have done something for us if we would have said something. The service was very good. Next time I will speak up!

AMAZING! This is the best restaurant I have been to in a long time. I had the escargot in puff pastry, it was tender and the pastry flaky, I couldn't get enough of the garlic butter sauce it came in! For dinner I had the duck which was perfectly cooked. My boyfriend had crab cakes for app, which he enjoyed and the shrimp in red pepper sauce which were excellent! We split the creme brulee for dessert and I was mad I didn't get my own. It was the best creme brulee I've ever had! You have to try this place, I wish I would have eaten there twice! It is right across the street from the Radisson, set back just a little with a wonderful ambience. I wish they had a place in NY as I would be there once a week! Don't miss this amazing meal!!!
