CONSISTENTLY GOOD

Mar 18, 2013 - posted by

DRIFTWOOD continues to be one of the better seafood places in ARUBA and one of the more affordable ones. They traditionally do a SPECIAL and it is always fabulous, well priced, and tasty - but you have to ask for it - be sure to do so. This may not be the fanciest place that you can eat at in ARUBA or the best meal that you will have but it does provide a very good meal at very reasonable prices, in a unique setting, with service that almost rises to the level of pampering. We continue to highly recommend the place to everyone and tout it highly as an alternative to some of the higher priced fancier dining facilities available and that is done without any attempt to detract from their quality as well. GO AND ENJOY.

This one has gone adrift

Dec 25, 2012 - posted by
We have been going to driftwood for many years, and this year will be the last.

What used to be a nice, simple place that offered fresh fare and reasonable prices has become a cash cow for their owners.

The service has never been terrific. But that has always been made up by the food. Unfortunately, they decided to improve upon their profits, and not their restaurant.

Garlic bread is plentiful, and offered often. I guess they are hoping to have you fill up on the carbs so you won't be disappointed with the teeny portions.

I ordered fried calamari for my appetizer and was presented with a plate consisting of 4 fried circular pieces on a plate adorned with some wilted lettuce. Really ?!?!? My wife asked me not to complain as it had already taken so long to get served. The other appetizers were equally as skimpy (can you imagine how happy we were to have finally been served our appetizers after waiting over 20 minutes and being given at least three baskets of bread?)

If you think that the portions are small for appetizers, just wait for the main courses. And wait you will...

The fish is tasty, but again, the portions for the prices you pay are out of whack! You may as wel eat at Windows on Aruba, or some other top ten Aruban restaurant ranked here at this web site. You will go to an upscale restaurant, pay the same prices, get better service, and eat in a nicer place that has some ambience, not like eating in some college cafeteria.

Great Choice

Just came back from 2 weeks in Aruba, found the Driftwood the first week and took guests back to The Driftwood the second week. Both times the food was amazing. Their catch of the day was excellent, and their Sea Bass perhaps the best in town.
Dinner salads were fresh, tasty and well presented. Service both times was exceptional. Made it to our Dining List of must visit every year. The choices on the Special Menu were very good and well worth the value of a complete meal package.

Best Dinner in Aruba

Jul 14, 2012 - posted by
We have been going to Aruba for 25 years and have never tried Driftwood. Our favorite Taxi Driver always tells us we need to eat at Driftwood. On this trip we took his advice. The food and service were amazing-from the Whole Red Snapper to the Blackened Shrimp, everthing was amazing. The corn bread, polenta and plantains made the meal even better. We cannot wait to return on our next trip.

Really really good

We were in the mood for some decent seafood and decided to give the driftwood a shot. The food was excellent and prices were reasonable. I had the blackened grouper and this may have been the best meal of the vacation. The service and atmosphere were fine . The place is casual and good for family dining. I will repeat and highly recommend

We have eaten here 4 times now and have never been disappointed. The seafood is fresh and we've tried every style of preparation that they offer, they are all wonderful. We also highly recommend the Red Sangria.

As we have said before, some things never fundamentally change and DRIFTWOOD is one of those things. If anything, things were so improved this year that we decided to eat here twice (on the insistence of spouse - who has training as a CHEF). Our expectation of consistency that we impose when we do so, was amply satisfied. DRIFTWOOD continues to provide very good food at very reasonable prices and is to be commended for doing that. As others have said, be sure to ask for their four course special - it is one of the best deals in ARUBA. We enthusiastically recommend DRIFTWOOD for your dining consideration.

Made a reservation for a birthday dinner with a small group of 8. We wanted to surprise the birtday girl with a cake. (We did brought our own cake) no fee was added for presenting the cake (while at another restaurant we had to pay for that service) all the waiters and waitresses sang the birthday song while presenting the cake. It was an amazing experience (eventhough it wasn't my birthday)
Not only the service was great the food was enjoyable. Definitely ask for their 4 course menu and try the escargot. The first time I've tried it and it was the best dish I've ever had!

I regularly visit Aruba and always visit my favorite restaurant on the island. As soon as I walk into the restaurant, I get greetings rom the lovely hostess and waiters. The service is truly excellent. The food is just to die for. If anyone is planning on visiting they should def try the "bread" which is called " pan bati". The main dishes, specailly the fresh fish are just perfectly seasoned. Talking about it, makes me wanna visit Aruba again just to have another deliscious meal at Driftwood. A MUST, if you are in Aruba.
