'The quality standard has been LOWERED

Mar 6, 2021 - posted by
The last time we attended this facility was approximately three years ago. I can say that we were disappointed with the temperature of the food, the freshness of the soup was substandard, and the offering selection was in adequate. The quality of the shrimp was questionable, and it’s completely being done was also questionable. My wife fish was hot in temperature, however my pasta was lukewarm. The quality the pasta was great, but it appears that my plate waited on her fish to be done, and then was served. The seafood soup presented itself as being held in a pot half a day before it was served.

The soup was not made from scratch but possibly left over from the day before? Empty shrimp shells were left in the soup, appearing that it came possibly from someone else’s plate before it was thrown out they put it into the pot for the stock?

Not like it used to be

I have been here two years ago. This time it was noisy and needed a fly shatter to fend off a constant barrage of flies while we ate. I had the red snapper and it was the worst red snapper I have had

Tuesday is rib night

May 30, 2017 - posted by
Decided to try Matthews tonight for the ribs. We were not disappointed. The food was great and it is all of the ribs you can eat for a reasonable price. The atmosphere was casual but very nice and service was also very good. Definitely going back next year. Highly recommend.

The food was enjoyable and the ocean view leaves nothing to be desired. Our server, Marco, always goes out of his way to make our dining experience top notch!

WAS GOOD BUT GOING DOWNHILL. Poor service and

we go here at least twice every trip and until this year have been very satisfied. we went on Valentine's Day and knew it would be busy but it is busy all the time and they do a lot of holidays so this type of treatment was uncalled for. Was on line with many others for our reservation when a local guy goes from the back of the long line and pushes in front . tells everyone on line he just wants to ask the maitre'd a question. Well after a handshake and fist bump, this guy gets a table immediately. well you had to hear everyone on line. the maitre'd gets all sweaty and tries to calm everyone. some seated tables had to wait one hour and twenty minutes for their salad (and wine). they served them their soup at the same time. our service was terrible as there was a table of locals near us that were fawned over by three or four people at the same time while us tourists were ignored. since tourism is 90% of their business, someone in management better read this and make some changes before they lose more business. there are a lot of other good restaurants nearby. the food was skimpy as well. the seafood over linguini had two medium shrimp, two mussels and some very rubbery calamari. not worth anywhere near $29. the calamari appetizer was rubbery as well. Breakfast

Mar 22, 2015 - posted by
We stay at Casa del Mar so we always eat at Matthews. We went for breakfast and had pancakes. They were American style pancakes. Mine had blueberries & his had apples & cinnamon in them with walnuts on the side. Really enjoyed it. Also enjoyed watching a yellow finch try to build a nest in an overhead light fixture. I love eating on the beach!

nice place but they really ticked me off. too

went there for rib night and although we had three people and two ordered ribs, when we gave them a visit aruba plus card that gives you a 10% discount, they refused to honor it. that is even though we had 6 glasses of wine, another different entree and more. they said, that the rib special was discount already. we have gone there before and they honored it so their stupidity cost them now and will in the future. we usually go there two or three times and only went once and we usually go with a group of ten friends from our hotel NOT THIS TIME. so to stiff us out of $12 they lost at least $600 in billing. STUPID STUPID STUPID and we won't go there next year and will tell everyone about it. too bad since the food is good and the service is good.

Better than expected

Aug 12, 2014 - posted by
Just got back from my first trip to Aruba, and stayed at the Casa Del Mar. This place is wonderful and on one of the nicest beaches i ever walked on, with spectacular views, and the most beautiful sunset every night right in front of your eyes. Matthews bar and restaurant sits right at the back of the property and backs out onto the beach and ocean. The food was always great, when you got it. Meaning that the service is slower than you would expect, but i found this applies to most places we visited on the Island. Fish of any kind was what we ate and it was always so tasty and locally fresh. The staff are all friendly, but can take a while to get to know them as they seem jaded sometimes with new people arriving every week and you can feel like you are just the next one in line etc. Happy hour is 3 times a day and prices are very reasonable. For my first tropical island holiday, i loved every minute of it, and the location of the hotel and Matthews bar was 75% of that. I would go back here next year.

Good meal at Matthews

Aug 11, 2014 - posted by
We returned to Matthews on 29 July which was a Tuesday and since it was "Ribs" night, I opted for the ribs. They were meaty and initial serving was good size and had a decent barbeque sauce. Only problem I had was with the service and getting another serving of ribs as I had to hunt our waiter down (at least I thought he was our waiter, just not sure as service at the restaurant seems to be haphazard). My wife had the Matthew's salad which was good and had an excellent curry dressing. As usual, the views of the sea were lovely
