Charming atmosphere and Fab Food Too

This restaurant , unlike any in NY, is A most interesting restaurant setting unlike no other with an unusual menu customized to one' s liking and taste . Delicious fish, beef, or chicken cooked and served sizzling on hot stones. Diners sit on antique furniture either in small room inside the 150 yr old mansion or around a swimming pool in an enclosed outdoor garden. An Aruba treat not to be missed.

Disappointed

We are fequent visitors to Aruba and have eaten at papiamento at least once each visit. I was very dissapointed on my last visit. We had reervations for 8 at 7:00 and we were rushed as if it were at fast food resturant. The service was not up to their usual attention to detail and the food mediocr3.

Nice dinner

We decided to go back here for our 10th anniversary. Dinner was great. We definitely recommend this place for a special occasion. The staff came out with a sparkler and sang happy anniversary. It was a nice touch to a great evening and great dinner.

So nice we did it twice

This restaurant came highly recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed. We were the first of our group to arrive in Aruba last summer and came here on our first night with one of our daughters. The food was excellent and the service was most accommodating. Rain was threatening when we arrived, but after the shower passed, our server, seated us outside. On our last night we chose to come here again with another daughter and had another wonderful experience. The restaurant has a very romantic setting but the ambiance can be enjoyed by a small or large group.

We always try to sit by the pool. But there are no bad tables, in the garden or inside. We prefer this venue over Madam Jennettes but I can't really tell you why.

Fantastic meal, once again!

Mar 12, 2013 - posted by
Once again, another great meal. We are from the NY metro area and fine dine in NYC often. We enjoy good food and do not mind paying for it. Papiamento is our favorite restaurant in Aruba, saving it for our last night every trip, and it did not disappoint! Our group of 10 was seated promptly at our reservation time, and the staff was pleasant and professional as usual. They were able to handle such a large group without problems, and everyone enjoyed their meals.

This fine dining setting is beautiful, outdoors around a large pool. There are large groups and also pleanty of couples for the romantic nature of this restaurant. There are a lot of tables but they are situated so you can still have private conversation.

A variety of appetizers were had, from the baked shrimp, similar to a scampi, which is always a hit, to the Keshi Yena, and french onion soup. There is meat on the menu but our group primarily stayed with the fish. The grouper is fresh caught and outstanding, with a variety of sauces to compliment it. The champagne sauce and the sauce with tomato and olives were a huge hit this year. Also, the wine list is extensive with resonable prices compared to some of the other restaurants on the island.

Definitely worth a try if you want a special dinner on your vacation!

Don't waste your money

This restaurant was referred to us an an excellent place to dine. When we walked in we thought wow! Very romantic! Table by the pool ( the could have at least cleaned the leaves before the event dinner hour). Little tight quarters but OK. Ordered a bottle of wine. Decent list and priced as you would expect for a restaurant like this. A basket of bread was served or should I say two keister rolls ( not even that fresh). A friend has a saying .... You will be able to tell how the food is going to be based on the bread. This should have been our first clue. We both ordered the grouper ( mine with a champagne sauce) and my lady grouper with shrimp and scallops. Meals were served reasonable time. We actually had grouper two nights previous and was excellent I guess we were anticipating the same. The meal was served with ok vegetables but plain white rice? Are you kidding. These were not cheap meals. Very disappointing. Neither of us finished our meal. Probably the first time I can remember that I did not ask to take the meal home. If you are looking for a romantic place to dine I would give it a ten. If you are looking for good food I would try some other place

Always our first nights' dinner in Aruba

Once we discovered this dinning spot on the beach, we have returned for the last three years. Our favorite for our first night. After a grueling flight on Sunday, a supper at 7pm with them is perfect.
Never a bad thing to say.

Unequalled Ambiance!

Feb 18, 2013 - posted by
This was our 3rd visit to Papiamento and the setting is simply unequalled on all the island. Our adult kids joined us this trip - their first to Aruba, and were equally impressed. The food was great as usual -- echoed by our son, which is saying something since he's in the chef-business himself. My only knock this time, different from our previous 2 visits, was "service by committee." It seems we had 2 (maybe 3) main servers, and maybe 2 (or 3) other wait-staff -- I lost count of the number of different faces! We then essentially got forgotten for dessert orders; and without a consistent, single server, it was if we had to flag someone down. This definitely detracted from our experience this time around and I would implore Papiamento to straighten this situation out. They were no busier than previous years, when we had a single VERY attentive server. This time, the professional server attention one has come to expect from such a fine restaraunt was decidedly absent for some reason. Hopefully an aberration.
